In a shocking turn of events, 69-year-old Arnaldo Soares, an Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) cardholder residing in Canada, was found murdered at his ancestral home in Orda, Candolim. His body was discovered on Sunday afternoon with his throat slit, following what authorities believe to be a premeditated attack.

The assailants reportedly fled the scene in the victim’s car, which was later located abandoned at the Sinquerim helipad. Despite the thorough ransacking of the premises, police confirmed that no valuables were stolen. As of late Sunday, no arrests have been made.

Senior police officials were quick to arrive at the crime scene on Sunday afternoon. Preliminary investigations suggest that the perpetrators gained entry by removing roof tiles from the traditional Goan house. A nearby resident reported hearing a commotion around 2:30 AM on Sunday. Upon investigating, they were assured by someone inside the house that there was no cause for concern. Subsequently, the intruders exited through the main door, driving away in Soares’ car.

Arnaldo Soares, a bachelor, had recently returned to his family home in Orda, Candolim, where he lived alone. His cousins and in-laws, who resided in another part of the expansive property, were unaware of the tragic events until the discovery of his body. Despite having sold much of their land, the Soares family remains a well-known landlord family in the area.

Police sources indicate that all angles are being explored, including the review of CCTV footage from Sinquerim where the car was abandoned. With no recent call records found on Soares’ mobile, authorities plan to request data from his WhatsApp account. Investigators speculate that the assailant may have been someone familiar to Soares, attempting to mislead the investigation by staging an entry and exit through the roof.

The police continue their intensive investigation into this heinous crime. Further updates are

awaited as more information becomes available.
